in Medical Oncology is a super-specialty post doctorate course in the field of
medicine. Medical Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with tumors or
cancers. India produces about 15
surgical oncologists every year whereas at least three times as many are
needed. Doctorate of Medicine in Medical Oncology is a super – specialty

and abroad. Medical Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the study
of tumors or cancer. The course imparts training to candidates into the field
of medical oncology and related subjects with adequate exposure to clinical and
laboratory based activities. During the course emphasis is given on diagnosis
of any cancer in a person, therapy, follow up of cancer patients after
successful treatment, palliative care of patients with terminal malignancies
and ethical questions surrounding cancer care. After successful course
completion one will be able to work as specialist, teacher and researcher in

DM
in Medical Oncology is about:

Provision
of multi-modality treatment.

Eligibility
·
Post-graduation
(MD), completed from an institute recognized by the Medical Council of India
(MCI) or any of the State Medical Councils.
·
A
minimum aggregate score of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the level of
post-graduation.
·
1-year
compulsory rotating internship.
·
Preferably,
a minimum of 12 months of professional experience, as most reputed institutes
prefer candidates with work experience.
Admission
Process
Generally,
in most of the colleges and institutes offering the course, admission is
provided based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance test, such
as NEET PG, conducted at the national level, followed by a subsequent round of
counselling.
The
round of counselling involves two additional rounds of Group Discussion and
Personal Interview, wherein candidate’s general aptitude for the course is
examined. A merit list is subsequently released issued by the institute
allocating available seats to the qualifying candidates.
