Overview
DM
in Accident and Emergency Medicine is a 3-year doctorate level program that
deals with medical assistance in regards to immediate cases that is where quick
medication and rehabilitation is required. The structure of the course is
designed and crafted with the aim of preparing the students in regards to the
real-life challenges that would come in their way while practicing medicine in
the practical world. Accidents or medical emergency like heart attacks,
paralysis attack, choking of windpipe etc are situations which require an
immediate and quick response from the side of medical attendants/doctors. Under
such circumstances, a trained and skilled medical professional is what that is
required to handle the situation in an effective manner.
A
doctorate program in Accident and Emergency Medicine aims at equipping
candidates with prevention, diagnosis, quick management, and rehabilitation
related skills and knowledge that are attached to the treatment of the patient
under such circumstances. The eligibility criteria for admission into DM
(Accident and Emergency Medicine) course is MD (Post graduation) from a Medical
Council of India (MCI) recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks in
aggregate (45%-50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates). Apart from this
candidate applying for institutes like AIIMS, JIPMER would have to qualify the
respective entrance exam in order to be eligible for admission.
The
course structure is designed in a manner so, as to impart knowledge and skills
that a practicing doctor would require while handling emergency and accident
cases which require quick reaction and response.The functional area of study
deals with the treatment and medication of human body that is under the
influence of biological attack like attack heart attack or had suffered
injuries due to accidents.
DM in Accident and Emergency Medicine pass out student can be employed in
various health establishments across the country as well as abroad. One can
also choose to go for self-employment in face of private clinics and hospitals;
however, this would require one to gain some experience as a medical
practitioner.
Eligibility

Candidate
must have completed MD (that is Post graduation) studies from an MCI recognized
central/state university.

A
minimum aggregate score of 55% (relaxable for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the Post
graduation (Master's level) is required.

Candidate
must have passed the final year exams before the commencement of the course
(For final year MD (Post Graduation) candidates only).

Candidates
must satisfy all other eligibility criteria’s as revised by the college and
University from time to time.
·
There
shall be no backlog in any subject at Master's level that is yet to be cleared
at the time of admissions.

to the course are based on the common entrance test based procedure as well as
a separate entrance exam conducted by respective medical college/university.
Some national medical colleges like AIIMS and JIPMER conduct a separate
entrance exam for admissions into Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course. Some of

Doctorate
in Accident and Emergency related Medication pass out can be employed in a host
of positions like a Medical officer, Emergency medicine expert, Residential
medical doctor, Attending Consultant etc. There are plenty of opportunities for
candidates in government sector as well. Candidates can apply for services in
government hospitals, primary, secondary, and tertiary health care centers. Defense
forces also recruit Doctors for Armed forces medical services where they are
expected to deliver their services to the armed forces of the country.

offers an opportunity to serve as a Medical officer in the various central
