M.Tech. in Power Electronics is 2-year long, full-time, autonomous, industry-oriented program. The discipline of Power Electronics encompasses a variety of fields within Electrical Engineering, and essentially, techniques in system-level modeling analyses, design, and integration of motor drives.

M.Tech. in Power Electronics: What is it About?

M.Tech. in Power Electronics course covers advanced topics in microprocessors and micro-controllers which are essential components in the domain of Power Electronics engineering. Projects of practical relevance are carried out in the final year of the course. 

The program offers a choice of electives for students to choose from, aimed at familiarizing them with emerging machines, areas of power electronics applications, and techniques to optimize the designs.M.Tech. in Power Electronics program culminates with a project work wherein students are needed to work on specific areas involving design, simulation, fabrication and testing of power electronics systems having research/industrial application, and power converter-based systems used for conversion of electric energy.

Within the scope of the program, engineers and professionals are also trained on an advanced level in subjects such as industry-power electronics, power electronics applications in power systems, and the transportation sector.

Eligibility for M.Tech. in Power Electronics

As a minimum criterion of eligibility, candidates seeking admission to the course need to have completed graduation (B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent qualification) with a minimum aggregate score of 60%. Graduation needs to have been completed in a relevant area of specialization, such as:

  • Electronics & Communication Engineering
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
  • Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
  • Instrumentation & Control Engineering

    M.Tech. in Power Electronics: Admission Process

    The admission process for the course is varied, as various institutes have their very own criteria and processes of admission. Admission to the course in any of the IITs is based on the candidate’s performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

    All candidate seeking admission to the course is supposed to qualify the GATE, followed by a round of counselling, based on performance in which, students are admitted.
