M.Sc. in Medical Surgical Nursing is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program. Medical Surgical Nursing is a field of nursing designed to address the need for professional care of adult patients in a variety of settings by combining technical expertise in administering healthcare and management skills to practice family-centered nursing care.Students enrolled to the course are trained in both theoretical aspects of nursing and the practical skills required in caring for patients that may hail from a wide range of age groups, socio-economic backgrounds, etc. The course also trains prospective nurses in effectively managing records and layouts in a medical-surgical nursing unit.
Medical-surgical nurses administer medicines and surface treatment, educate patients on their health conditions, and admit or discharge new patients. Therefore, they essentially co-ordinate the groundwork in any health care facility. The course additionally involves modules on nursing education, and enrolled students are equipped with the skills needed to teach practicing nurses and undergraduate/graduate students.As an academic discipline, Medical-Surgical Nursing includes advanced study in the field of nursing including best practices, research methodology, statistical knowledge, and management strategies that form the discipline. The course aims to impart intensive practical training in such aspects, including modules on how medical research can be conducted and how statistical data can be derived from research. Candidates are offered the option of studying any chosen specialty within the field of nursing in detail and submit a specialization-based dissertation towards the course’s completion.
M.Sc. in Medical Surgical Nursing prepares eligible candidates in all the major technical aspects of nursing includes advanced knowledge of illnesses, symptoms, and professional ways to relieve such health problems. It also familiarizes candidates with the many practical challenges faced by medical surgical nurses with regard to patient-relations, management etc.For applying to this postgraduate program, candidates are expected to have basic knowledge of nursing. The course components include nursing education, ethical and legal issues in nursing, nursing management, nursing research methodology, and in-depth modules in the chosen clinical specialty.
As a minimum criterion of eligibility, aspiring candidates need to have completed graduation in any of the following:
