Overview
M.Phil in Library and
Information Science is a 2 year post graduate Library Science Course.
Candidates who are willing to take this course must have a Master’s degree in
Science, arts or Engineering, etc. Candidates must acquire 55% of marks in
their post graduate level courses which is considered as eligibility criteria
for M.Phil.
Master
of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Library and Information Science gives more emphasis
in two main categories one is library science and another is information
science. This course has 2 years of duration which may vary based on the
institution. The main skill required in this course is that candidate must be
capable of gathering the information from various resources and also
maintainability is taken in concern.
The
average tuition fee for the course may vary between INR 9,000 to 20,000 for the
span of 2 years. On successful completion of the course candidates are eligible
to be hired in the capacities like Companies and organizations, Museums and
Galleries, Information centers, Documentation centers as community librarian,
library trainee, library professional assistant, information assistant etc.
M.Phil
in Library and Information Science encompasses of two major fields library and
information science. Initially, library science is an interdisciplinary area
where it applies the practices over the information technology, tools of
management, education and other areas of library management such as collection,
organization, preservations and gathering pieces of information from different
resources.
This
course aims to build in the management, organizational and preservation skills
over the candidate. This course enables the students to organize information
which involves classification, cataloguing, recording and maintenance of
materials and books.
Eligibility
Candidates who are
wishing to apply for this course must possess 55% in their any of the courses
in Master’s degree. Some colleges and Institutions may consider the scores that
are obtained in the entrance tests conducted by them. This course also requires
some knowledge in computer operations, content management, communication,
creation of databases and information retrieval techniques with the basic
knowledge with-in the students.
