Six Young
peasant girls in the little village of Tarbes in France were divinely inspired
way back in 1843, to a life of contemplation and prayer, the Congregation of
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes was thus born.
The sisters
who arrived in Bangalore in 1882 worked in Bowring Hospital. On seeing that
Education was the need of the hour for women in Bangalore, the sisters of the
society started Jyoti Nivas College in 1966. Since then Jyoti Nivas has been
imparting holistic education to young women. Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College
functioning separately from the year 2001 is likewise in pursuit of the mission
of the society of St. Joseph of Tarbes with the vision of communion, Service
and Excellence to turn out emotionally balanced, spiritually oriented, morally
upright, socially committed and intellectually enlightened youth to serve the
society.
We attribute
the success of this mission to our dedicated academic approach and the assorted
co-curricular and extracurricular activities that are successfully launched to
enable our wards to configure their future. Every student is empowered to prove
their mettle in life. This schooling and coaching for life, warmly embraces
pupils from all sections of the society.
In these 175
years the strong faith, untiring zeal and selfless spirit of the sisters and
the abiding presence of God has helped the society expand and spread
extensively across the globe for ministering the society at large.
From those
humble beginnings in the fields of Tarbes in France to the pinnacle of
distinction in Bangalore, India, it has truly been a journey to the stars.
