Lady Irwin College is a constituent college for women affiliated
to the University of Delhi. It was established in the year 1932 under the
patronage of the then Vicereine, Lady Dorothy Irwin. Some of eminent
national and international leaders such as Annie Besant, Sarojini Naidu,
Margaret Cousins, Maharani of Bhopal were its founding mentors.
Lady Irwin College is popular for its Home Science since
its inception. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the
field of Home Science and has also introduced education courses such as B.Ed
and B.Ed special education recently. It aims for the holistic development of
the women students and their capacity building through well thought academic
programmes and extracurricular activities.
The faculty of the Lady Irwin College is well-qualified and
regularly upgrades itself to provide students with enriching teaching
experience. To keep up with every changing academic and industry trends, the
college organises various workshops, seminars, conferences, outreach activities
in collaboration with various government and non-government organisations.
A large part of the Lady Irwin College is
housed in heritage structures. The college keeps renovating and upgrading
its facilities from time to time so that its students get the best learning
environment. It has well-equipped classrooms, laboratories and computer labs.
The placement cell of Lady Irwin College has maintained good
placement records. Most of its students manage to bag at least one offer before
the completion of the course. It also organises various pre-placement and
training sessions for the students to enhance their employability and
professional skills.
