TKM College of Engineering
Thangal Kunju
Musaliar College of Engineering (TKMCE), Kollam was established in 1958
and is running under the TKM College Trust. The foundation stone of the college
was laid in the year 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of
Independent India. The college is affiliated to University of Kerala. It is
approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The College
offers Bachelor and Master courses in the field of engineering. The college has
separate Hostel accommodation for boy and girl’s students.
TKM College
of Engineering, the fondly remembered alma mater of thousands of capable
engineers worldwide, has for more than half a century, shown how a visionary
and his ideas can transform an entire state’s educational aspirations. Revered
by many and eulogized by many more, Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar still remains
in our memory as the torch bearer of professional education in the private
sector in the State of Kerala. T K M College Trust has been able to impart
the visions of the founder to provide world class technical education to
benefit all the sections of the society. It focusses on academic excellence and
cultural ethos which include quality improvement programmes, modernization of
infrastructure and continuous evaluation and improvement of systems and
facilities for staff and students. It strives hard to train and equip the
students to get placed in top notch corporate and business units by honing,
transforming and tapping the latent potential and talent dormant in them.
It has been
said that while scientists study the world as it is, engineers create the world
that has never been. I extend my sincere gratitude to the staff and students for
rendering their whole hearted cooperation and support in maintaining the high
standards envisaged by our founder. I beckon all current and prospective
students to become responsible engineers so that time cannot erase, nor the
years dim, the effulgent glory of TKM College of Engineering.
T K M College
of Engineering, the first Government- aided engineering college in
Kerala, is situated in the cashew hub of Kerala, City of Kollam. Spanning over
an area of more than 25 Acres, it is ideally located in Karikode, on the
Kollam- Chenkotta road, about 5 kilometers from the heart of the city. The
campus, a distinctive landmark that cuts above the rest is built in the
aesthetic Indo Saracenic architectural style with mughal influence .
The college
is the first and foremost institution for technical education, run by the
TKM Educational Trust, headed by Janab Shahal Hassan Musaliar. The foundation
stone of the college was laid in the year 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the
first President of Independent India. The college was formally inaugurated by
Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs,
Govt. of India, on 3rd July, 1958.
At its start,
the college began its stride with the three basic branches of engineering –
Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Today it is a renowned technical
institution in India, offering courses in eight branches of engineering at
under graduation level, seven M-Tech programs and MCA program at post graduate
level.
The
College is an approved research centre and QIP centre for
Mechanical and Civil Engineering. It is supported by about 500 eminent staff
members, teaching and non-teaching, and about 1000 students are admitted every
year in various disciplines. The college was affiliated to the University of
Kerala till 2015 and from 2015 onwards it is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam
Technological University. It is also approved by the All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
