About TKM College of Engineering

Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering (TKMCE), Kollam was established in 1958 and is running under the TKM College Trust. The foundation stone of the college was laid in the year 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India. The college is affiliated to University of Kerala. It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The College offers Bachelor and Master courses in the field of engineering. The college has separate Hostel accommodation for boy and girl’s students.

TKM College of Engineering, the fondly remembered alma mater of thousands of capable engineers worldwide, has for more than half a century, shown how a visionary and his ideas can transform an entire state’s educational aspirations. Revered by many and eulogized by many more, Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar still remains in our memory as the torch bearer of professional education in the private sector in the State of Kerala. T K M College Trust has been able to impart the visions of the founder to provide world class technical education to benefit all the sections of the society. It focusses on academic excellence and cultural ethos which include quality improvement programmes, modernization of infrastructure and continuous evaluation and improvement of systems and facilities for staff and students. It strives hard to train and equip the students to get placed in top notch corporate and business units by honing, transforming and tapping the latent potential and talent dormant in them.

It has been said that while scientists study the world as it is, engineers create the world that has never been. I extend my sincere gratitude to the staff and students for rendering their whole hearted cooperation and support in maintaining the high standards envisaged by our founder. I beckon all current and prospective students to become responsible engineers so that time cannot erase, nor the years dim, the effulgent glory of TKM College of Engineering.

T K M College of Engineering, the  first Government- aided engineering college in Kerala, is situated in the cashew hub of Kerala, City of Kollam. Spanning over an area of more than 25 Acres, it is ideally located in Karikode, on the Kollam- Chenkotta road, about 5 kilometers from the heart of the city. The campus, a distinctive landmark that cuts above the rest is built in the aesthetic Indo Saracenic architectural style with mughal influence .

The college is the first and foremost  institution for technical education, run by the TKM Educational Trust, headed by Janab Shahal Hassan Musaliar. The foundation stone of the college was laid in the year 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of Independent India. The college was formally inaugurated by Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs, Govt. of India, on 3rd July, 1958.

At its start, the college began its stride with the three basic branches of engineering – Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Today it is a renowned technical institution in India, offering courses in eight branches of engineering at under graduation level, seven M-Tech programs and MCA program at post graduate level.

The College  is  an approved research centre and QIP centre for Mechanical and Civil Engineering. It is supported by about 500 eminent staff members, teaching and non-teaching, and about 1000 students are admitted every year in various disciplines. The college was affiliated to the University of Kerala till 2015 and from 2015 onwards it is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. It is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

In 2008, T K M College of Engineering celebrated its 50th anniversary in a magnificent way. A series of commemorative lectures were conducted as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Many renowned speakers and orators made their presence to speak on the contributions of the great Thangal Kunju Musaliar in the educational, economical and socio-cultural scenario of Kollam. The valedictory function of the Golden Jubilee celebrations was inaugurated by the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The college is celebrating Diamond Jubilee in 2019. To celebrate the 6oth year milestone with the students, faculty, alumni and all stakeholders  of the institution, we are hosting many events through out the year.

TKM College of Engineering celebrated six decades of excellence, as the byword for eminence in technical education, in 2019. Established in 1958 by the great visionary and entrepreneur, Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar as the first private government-aided engineering college in the state of Kerala, TKM College of Engineering, transfigured the way technical education is imparted through inclusive outlook, progressive pedagogy and state of the art infrastructure. With a diverse student and alumni community that spans across continents, the institution has given wings to the dreams of thousands of individuals and moulded them into insightful technocrats and nation builders. It has remained amenable to the requisites of modern technical education by establishing collaborations with industry leaders and distinguished national and foreign institutions including the University of Leeds, University of Kookmin, University of Twente, University of Wisconsin Parkside and Indian Indian Institute of Science among others. The recent NIRF ranking, six year accreditation status from NBA and A Grade accreditation by NAAC, all owe testimony to the unrelenting effort and undeterred commitment shown by the management, faculty members and staff of the institute in advancing toward the vision set forth by the founder himself.
