B.Sc. in Gemology is a 3-year full-time undergraduate course divided into 6 semesters. Gemology is a branch of Mineralogy which is exclusively concerned with:

- appraisal, of precious and semi-precious gemstones which are used in the jewellery and astrology industries.
The course offers comprehensive learning in gemology, starting from extraction of gemstones to final grading and evaluation. Students enrolled to the courses are imparted advanced lessons in:

B.Sc. in Gemology: What is it About?
The art of jewellery making can be quite a daunting one. Students enrolled to the course are taught to:
mould jewellery.
- design, identify and test gemstone.
- manufacture and market designs.
- specialize in Gemology, in identification and grading of precious diamonds and stones.
- prepare sketches on paper by hand and on computer to conceptualize a conceived design.
- prepare structural models and detailed drawings.
- perform computer stimulations or a full-scale prototype.
- formulated designs out of regular or floral patterns.
- Generating forms by connecting different structures together.
- develop creativity and an eye for detail for the specialization.
Eligibility for B.Sc. in Gemology
Candidates aspiring for admission to the course are required to fulfil the following minimum eligibility criteria.
- 10+2 education completed in any stream, from a recognized educational Board.
- A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the 10+2 level.
B.Sc. in Gemology: Admission Process
Most institutes and colleges offering the course admit students based on their accomplishment in a relevant entrance examination, conducted mostly at institutional level, followed by a round of personal interview.
In the personal interview round, candidate’s general aptitude for the course is examined and a merit list is then issued by each institute, declaring the names of all the selected students. Admission procedure generally varies across institutes.
A few institutes also provide direct admission to candidates on the basis of their score at the 10+2 level and some other criteria as well.
