Overview
This course is designed
to assist students in developing expertise and in-depth understanding in the
field of cardiovascular and thoracic nursing. It will help students to develop
advanced skills for nursing intervention in various cardio medical and surgical
conditions. It will enable the student to function as Cardio vascular and
Thoracic Nurses practitioner / specialist. It will further enable the student
to function as educator, manager and research in the field of cardiovascular
and thoracic nursing. Cardiovascular disease is one of the major health problems
in India. Nearly 100 million people are affected with the cardiovascular
disease, the prevalence of the cardiovascular diseases increasing among the
youth of India and nearly 25% of the victims are below 40 years of age.
In the medical field, cardio thoracic nursing courses have opened the
pathway to multiple future opportunities and sustainability. The cardio
thoracic nursing course focuses on the fundamental concepts of nursing.
However, the area of focus remains the cardiac segment of the human body. The
nurses provide postoperative care to the patients and help to monitor the
cardiac and vascular readings post and before the operations. Moreover, the
cardio thoracic nursing course also allows students to learn about the
cardio-thoracic section in detail so that their practical applications could be
implemented well. Multiple universities have been offering diploma or
fellowship programmes in cardio thoracic nursing in India. Moreover, due to the
demand of the nursing units in hospitals and medical units, the cardio thoracic
nursing has proved to be helpful for students.

Cardiothoracic nurses are open to multiple job opportunities ranging from
operation theatres, cardiac surgery wards, cardiac catheterisations, etc. to
cardiovascular intensive care units, cardiac medical wards and clinical
research units.

Demonstrate

thoracic conditions including Advance Cardiac Life support

Describe
the various drugs used in cardio vascular and thoracic conditions and nurses
responsibility

Demonstrate
skill in handling various equipments /gadgets used for critical care of
cardiovascular and thoracic patients

Appreciate
team work and co-ordinate activities related to patient care

Practice

a layout of ICCU and ICTU and develop standards for cardio vascular and
thoracic nursing practice
Eligibility
·
For
post-graduation programme: M.Sc. in Nursing (Cardiological/CTVS Nursing)
·
For
applying for a postgraduate program in Nursing, a candidate must possess a
minimum percentile of 60 percent in the graduation program
·
Apart
from this, it is necessary to achieve the desired percentile in the entrance
examination as per the cut-off list released by the institution.
