Overview
MD in Dermatology, Venereology &
Leprology is a 3 year post graduate course. Eligibility to which
is clearing bachelor’s degree such as MBBS, DMS, BHMS, and BDS
etc. Admission for this course is on the basis of rank that is obtained in
the entrance test conducted. This course of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology
consists of major subjects which include topics like immunology of
dermatological diseases, cellular and molecular inflammation, skin genetics,
skin structure and development of skin, basic reactions of skin, repair and
carcinogenesis. Major Job profiles and designation after MD in Dermatology,
Venereology & Leprology is professor, Skin specialist, Therapy manager,
sales coordinator, Clinical application specialist etc. These graduates can be
hired by many industries like health clinics, health centers, physician
practices, healthcare, natural apothecaries, college health centers, hospitals
etc. The salary which can be earned by theses graduates is INR 2 to 10
Lacs per year Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology is a field which is
related to skin so it is also called as dermatology. Dermatology, Venereology
& Leprology is a branch of medicine which is dealing with the disorders of
the skin. Skin is not the only skill for these graduates they can also deal
with nails and hair problems. It involves the removal of scars from skin,
extra growth in skin, unusual behavior by skin etc. Some of the disorders are
psoriasis, eczema, and allergies of scalp, skin allergies and many more.
In recent days, many dermatologists also
perform elective procedures like botox injections, laser hair removal and hair
transplant, collagen injections etc.
Objectives of the course:

To diagnose and manage common skin diseases,
sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy.
·
To manage efficiently all medical emergencies
related with skin, leprosy and venereal disease.
·
To adopt preventive measures at individual
and community levels against communicable and venereal diseases and leprosy.
·
To teach requisite knowledge and laboratory
skills to other medical/ paramedical team members.
·
To adopt a compassionate attitude towards
patients (and their families) under the one’s charge.
·
To evaluate and initiate investigation for
solving problems relating to skin and venereal diseases and leprosy.
Eligibility
Typically, to pursue an MD degree, candidates
need to satisfy the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

Candidates should have obtained an MBBS
Degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
·
Candidate should have completed a 1- year
compulsory rotating internship after passing the final professional examination
which is MBBS before 30th April of the academic year.
·
Candidates in possession of an MBBS degree or
Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized by the Indian Medical Council Act
1956, besides a permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS
qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council
and having completed 1 year of internship or/ are likely to complete the internship
on or before 31st March or 31st April of the relevant year, may apply for
NEET-PG through the online application system.
Admission Process
Aspiring candidates can get admission to
MD course through All India Pre Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT). For
admission to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), candidates are
required to appear the entrance examination of AIIMS. Other Universities/institutions
also conduct their own medical entrance exams for providing admission.
