Overview

M.Pharm. in Pharmacy Practice is a 2-year postgraduate Pharmacy course. The course has been designed to offer instruction in concepts and processes of technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in hospitals and retail settings under supervision of Registered Pharmacist. As a minimum criterion of eligibility for applying to the course, aspiring need to have completed B.Pharm from a recognized university.

Such postgraduates are hired in capacities such as Lecturer, Professor, Executive Search Trainee, Pharmacist, Pharmacy In-charge, Pharmacy Executive, Quality Control Consultant, Medical Marketing Executive/Manager, Branch Manager/Regional Manager, Sales Development Manager, Medical Writer, etc.

Pharmacy is concerned with health and chemical sciences, manufacturing, and quality control of drugs. Students enrolled to the course are taught to make effective and safe use of pharmaceutical products, and to effectively dispense and prepare medicines and drugs. They are hired in pharmaceutical companies, Health and Welfare Provincial Research Council, Department of National Defense, health centers, educational institutes, food and drug administration, hospitals, sales and marketing department for pharmacy, and drug control administration.

Eligibility

·         Bachelor of Pharmacy an institute recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India.

·         A minimum aggregate score of 50% (general) and 45% (SC/ST) at the level of graduation.

Admission Process

Most institutes offering the course admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges. Some even provide direct admission, based on the candidate’s score at the level of graduation.

However, mostly, admission to the course is made on the basis of the candidate’s performance in a relevant institutional test and subsequent rounds of interview and counselling conducted by the concerned university/institute.

Career Prospects

Upon successful completion of the course, such postgraduates work at government hospitals, private medical shops, private hospitals/clinics, or may pursue consulting or private practice. They work in departments such as quality control, manufacturing, packing marketing, production management, area management, etc.
