Overview
Master of Philosophy
(M.Phil.) in Geography is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course
which is divided into 4 semesters. This course focuses on the 2 divisions of
geography which are physical geography and human geography. In this course,
students learn to produce new solutions for the geographical issues in the
environmental surroundings.
M.Phil.
in Geography course covers an introduction to geography. It teaches students
about the foundation in the study of geography and physical character of Earth.
Graduates learn about vegetation, weather patterns, climate issues, soils,
water usage and landforms. This course focuses on impacts of population and
their requirements in this field.
In
this course, major topics student’s studies include Economic development,
population growth, resource allocation, urbanization, and geopolitics. These
topics also serve as an introduction to the programs, other technologies and
satellite systems used in this field. Students learn about current issues in
Geographical Information Systems, digital mapping, mining, and data collection.
In
this course, students study about environmental geography, biodiversity,
environmental changes, water and forest resources, energy usage, the
relationship between economics and environmental data collection. Students also
use computer programs to develop Geographical Information Systems. Fieldwork is
required in all the subjects.
Eligibility
Interested aspirants
for the course must fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria:
Master’s
degree in Geography or Earth Systems Sciences or in any stream of social
science
Minimum
of 55% or equivalent marks at the level of graduation.
SC/ST/OBC
students must score a minimum of 50% marks
In
some reputed colleges above 60% of marks in their master’s degree are eligible
candidates to apply for this course.
Admission Process
Admission to M.Phil.
(Geography) course is based on student’s marks obtained in their master’s
degree, marks scored in the entrance exam and personal interview conducted by
the reputed colleges or universities.
Most
of the colleges admit students on the basis of common entrance exams whereas a
few of them conduct exams based on their own exam pattern comprising questions
from specific subjects.
