M.Sc. Chemistry is a 2-year career-oriented postgraduate course which comprises a broad variety of modules in chemistry from among which students can choose to specialize in any.

The basic eligibility to pursue it is a graduate degree from a recognized college. The degree should be in Chemistry or an allied discipline.

M.Sc. Chemistry: What is it About?

Chemistry is the science of matter and the changes effected by it. The science of matter is also a part of the discipline of Physics, but while Physics is more practical and applies a fundamental approach, Chemistry is more specialized and is concerned with the composition, behaviour, structure, and properties of matter. It is also about the changes matter undergoes during chemical reactions.

Students can join scientific research organizations and agencies or can opt to teach in Colleges/Universities after having passed NET Exam. M.Sc. Chemistry aspirants are expected to have analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate and interpret result on the basis of the limited information available.

This degree course gives a solid base for higher degree programs like M.Phil. or PhD. M.Sc. chemistry degree holders can get jobs in various areas such as Food and Drinks Industry, Utility and Energy Research and Health and Medical Organisations.

M.Sc. Chemistry: Eligibility

As a minimum criterion of eligibility for M.Sc. Chemistry course, aspiring candidates need to have completed:

Higher and Senior Secondary levels of education (classes X and XII) with a minimum aggregate score of 60%.

Graduation (B.Sc. with Chemistry as one of the main subjects), with a minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST candidates).

Often, candidates are required to qualify an institute, state or national-level entrance test for admission.

M.Sc. Chemistry: Admission Process

The admission process is varied as various institutes have their very own criteria and processes of admission. Admission to the course for students with a graduating score of up to 50% is often based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance exam. This is followed by a round of counselling, wherein the student’s general aptitude for M.Sc. Chemistry course is examined, and based on performance in which, students are admitted.
