Overview

M.Sc. Costume Design and Fashion or Master of Science in Costume Design and Fashion is a postgraduate Fashion and Interior Designing. Students have hands-on exposure to sewing, dyeing, printing and recent trends in fashion. The work of costume designers is part art, part fashion design, part history, and part drama. It's about capturing someone's essence, representing life in a time or place, and making a statement about performers that inspires fantasy and distinguishes them from the rest of us. The duration of the course is two years and it is career orienting in nature after its successful passing.

·         They should have been known for construction, dyeing, printing, fashion illustration, portfolio presentation etc.

·         Those who want to have practical skills related to fashion. The students develop visual awareness, practical skills and knowledge in theory or design.

·         They can offer ideas regularly on how to further develop a product to be readily absorbed in a market. 

·         It is beneficial to increase the knowledge base, enhance research aptitude and to provide the students with inbuilt confidence in their professional field and cutting edge in the global scenario. 

·         Degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as Ph.D. and M.Phil. for research work. 

·         They should be a sharp observer sensitive to changing trends. Students can become teachers in schools on a private basis.

Eligibility

Candidate with an overall average of B Grade or equivalent (55%) marks in B.Sc. Textile Science & Apparel Design. The students with the following undergraduate degrees viz., B.Sc. Apparel Design, B.Sc. Textiles & Clothing, B.Sc. Fashion Design, B.Sc. Fashion Apparel Design, B.Sc. Composite (Home Science) are also eligible provided they complete the required prerequisites by the end of Semester II i.e. FY M.Sc.

 

Admission Process

The admission process for a Master of Science in Costume and Fashion Designing is similar in every college across the whole country. Students have to appear in entrance exams that include the General Aptitude Test, Creative Ability Test, and Comprehension of English test to get admission. Students have to go through personal interviews in specific universities. In this process, the management of the university decides whether the students should be given admission or not.
