Masters of Planning (M.Plan)
Masters of
Planning (M.Plan) is a post-graduate course in planning urban, rural,
environment, transport, etc. settlements and resources. A candidate has to be
a B.Arch./ B.Plan. graduate from a recognized university in order to be
eligible for this course.
M.Plan is a
two-year program and which has specialization in courses like Urban and
Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Transportation planning, housing,
city planning and infrastructure planning. The mode of admission is either
through Entrance Examination and/or Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
M.Plan
graduates can obtain jobs in planning related career in private, public and
non-government sectors. The graduates of M.Plan can also find employment in
architecture/ building firms. The job profiles can be that of a town planner,
project manager, planning advisor/consultants, planning manager, etc.

Master of
Planning is a unique course which provides the knowledge and skills in Spatial
Planning, recourses planning and development of cities, rural area, transport
etc.
Specialization
Master of
Planning is a vast course and since there are a lot of areas which need to be
covered, it is often that students would find this course with a specialization
and not as a whole. Hence, it is important to know what these specializations
are. M.Plan specializations are as follows:
Environmental
Planning: This specialization gives students the knowledge and skills to
understand and apprehend environmental problems and the issues related to it so
as to provide the best possible solutions.
Transportation
Planning: In this specialization, students learn the skills to manage
transport and the concerned issues regarding Transport at the state, national
and international level.
Urban &
Regional Planning: Ever thought who plans a city or a locality? Successful
town planners who work with the government or non-government organisation help
in the planning of an urban and regional area. This specialisation helps
students in learning about the methods and tools which help in Urban and
Regional planning.
Academic
Options after M.Plan
After this
Masters course, students can opt for a Ph.D. course. However, it is mandatory
that students, who haven’t specialized in the Master's course, must choose a
specialization. Most popular option for Ph.D in Planning is for Urban and
Regional Development.

Eligibility Criteria
This course
requires the candidate to have scored a minimum 50% marks at Higher &
Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th).
Students with
a B. Tech/ BE in Civil/ Planning/ Architecture Engineering from a recognised
university with a minimum 55% marks are also eligible for admission to this
course.
Certain
universities also allow students with a Master’s Degree in Geography/ Economics
/ Sociology from a recognised university with minimum 55% marks, admission to
this program.
Selection
Process
The final
selection of the candidate will be made keeping in mind the score acquired by
the candidate in Entrance Exam, Counselling and Group Discussion/ Personal
Interview.
