Overview
M.Ch. in E.N.T is a 3- year long postgraduate course divided into 6 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months. M.Ch. in E.N.T (Otorhinolaryngology) is an advanced qualification in surgical medicine. Otorhinolaryngology, also called otolaryngology/ head and neck surgery is a surgical subspecialty of medicine that deals with conditions of the ear, nose, and throat (ENT), base of the skull, and the surgical management of cancers and benign tumors of the head and neck. These subspecialty ENT areas are allergy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck, laryngology (throat), otology/neurotology (ears, balance, and tinnitus), pediatric otolaryngology (children), rhinology (nose), and sleep disorders.
The average annual course fee in India ranges between INR 10,000 and 15 lacs, depending upon the institute offering the course. The basic eligibility to pursue the course is MD or MS degree in a relevant discipline, preferably E.N.T, from a recognized university. For availing admission to the course, eligible candidates need to appear for a relevant entrance test, such as the national-level online NEET-SS or another such exam conducted by the institute, followed by rounds of interview for the shortlisted candidates. Otorhinolaryngology, also referred to as ENT, is the medical discipline that involves the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases, abnormalities, and other health problems affecting the ears, nose and throat, as well as the head and neck, mouth, sinuses, and voice box (larynx). Otorhinolaryngologists who specialize in the field of ENT may also specialize in sleep medicine, allergy, head and neck, facial surgery, and pediatric otorhinolaryngology. Otorhinolaryngologists also perform such surgeries as Microvascular Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Parathyroidectomy, Thyroidectomy, Adenoidectomy, Tonsillectomy, Ear Surgery, Blepharoplasty, Septoplasty, Rhinoplasty, and Otoplasty.
The core curriculum includes didactic lectures and seminars on basic tumor biology, pathology, anatomy, molecular biology and genetics, clinical research methods, radiation oncology, medical oncology and different aspects of head and neck oncology and general head and neck surgery including benign pathology.
Eligibility
· Master’s degree and a post graduate medical degree (MD/MS/DNB)/ Provisional Pass Certificate or an equivalent recognized qualification with a minimum aggregate score of 55% from an institute recognized by the Medical Council of India.
· Permanent registration with the Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils.
· Work experience of a minimum of 24 months in General Surgery or E.N.T Surgery.
· Candidates awaiting their final year’s exam results may also apply on a provisional basis. Admission is subsequently confirmed on the basis of post-graduation results.
Admission Process
NEET SS is an eligibility-cum-ranking single window entrance examination for all Super Specialty DM/M.Ch. courses as per the Indian Medical Council Act. No other entrance examination, either at State or institute level, is valid for entry to DM/ M.Ch. courses. Thus, qualifying NEET-SS is mandatory for gaining entry to DM/M.Ch. courses under various universities/institutes in the country.
