About Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering is a 3-year full-time doctorate level course which is divided into 6 semesters. Candidates who have completed their master’s degree in the stream of electrical, electronic or electromagnetics with more than 50% or equivalent marks can apply for this course. Students are required to take an entrance exam to get an admission for this course. Most of the colleges conduct common entrance exams.

Electrical engineering is the branch of engineering which deals with the technology of electricity. In this course, students can work with devices, components, systems from tiny particles to make huge power station generators. In this study they learn how to design circuits to perform specific functions and meet their requirements which is reliable and efficient electrical product. They work with resistors, capacitors, transistors, magnetic coils, etc.

Successful graduates of Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering can work in different companies from transport, renewable energy, construction, power and manufacturing. They can move into project management roles, electrical design, and specialize in this field.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering: What is it about?

Electrical engineering is the study of electronics, electrical and electromagnetism. This department broadly describes various topics of electrical engineering such as VLSI, circuits, images and vision, communications, networks, information theory, microwave antennas, digital signal processing, and electromagnetics.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering presents the fundamentals of multi-disciplinary engineering in the context of designing subject. The course begins with the introduction of circuits, both amps, and transistors.  The course will cover various electro-optical phenomena and devices, multistage amplifiers, and MOS transistors. The main goal is to equip engineering science with engineering tools that use in further studies and research.

The advanced writing components of this course focus on witting technical documents such as abstracts, memos, articles etc. This course provides a background in electrical engineering for students entering this program from another field like maths and science. This study discusses the design of application integrated circuits.

Eligibility for Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

Students who wish to pursue Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering must fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria.

·         Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Communications, and Instrumentation, Computer Science or other related disciplines.

·         Candidates should secure above 50% or an equivalent marks from the respective colleges or institutions.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering: Admission Process

Applicants need to clear entrance exams conducted by recognized colleges for admission to Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Some such entrance exams include GATE, UGC NET, and CSIR. Based on these exam results, students might be called for personal interview. After these interview students will be selected to join this course in respective colleges.

Lateral entry students directly join this course without writing an entrance exam. But experience is required in this electrical field.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering: Career Prospects

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering graduates design and develop products based on the electrical technologies. They can work as technicians who can repair the electrical equipment and they also manufacture new product developments. These engineers are generally concerned with generation, production and transmission of electricity. These professionals may find jobs in computer related companies.

Other related careers for electrical engineering:

·         Aerospace engineers
