Overview
Pharm.
D. (Post Baccalaureate) is a 3-year professional post-graduate course in the
discipline of Pharmacy, open for pursuance by eligible graduates of Pharmacy,
completed from an institute recognized by the PCI.
The
course includes 1 compulsory year of residency or internship as well. The
course is divided across two phases, of which the first phase includes
theoretical study, and the second includes a residency/ internship program to
be completed by enrolled students.
During
the phase of internship, candidates are imparted advanced lessons in clinical
pharmacy services or pharmacy practice under the supervision of faculty
members. At the end of the course, the clinical pharmacists develop and acquire
competencies (knowledge, skill and attitude) to provide pharmaceutical care
services, drug and poison information services, patient counseling, identify
drug-drug interactions, monitor adverse drug reactions, carry out therapeutic
drug monitoring, help in drug dosage adjustment in special population and
renal/hepatic patients, assist/co-ordinate in the conduct of clinical trials,
promote rational use of medicines and ultimately contribute to better patient
care.
Eligibility
·
Bachelor
of Pharmacy completed from a university recognized by the Pharmacy Council of
India (PCI).
·
A
minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the level of
graduation.
·
Candidates
awaiting their graduation-level examination’s results are also eligible to
apply on provisional basis.
Admission
Process
Most
institutes offering the course admit students based on their performance in a
relevant entrance test. Some institutes also admit students based on the candidate’s
obtained merit at the level of graduation, while some conduct their own
entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies
